The aim is for poorer and richer countries to work more closely together. The international community adopted the Voluntary Guidelines on the Right to Food 20 years ago, but one in 11 people still suffer from chronic hunger.
A powerful Global Alliance must also put more emphasis on the human right to adequate food. The G20 also has a responsibility to protect the climate, as it is responsible for 80 percent of global CO2 emissions. We expressly welcome the fact that hunger, poverty and inequality are high on the agenda of the Brazilian G20 presidency this year. We call on the German Chancellor to use the G20 meeting to ensure that civil society from the Global South is more involved in the preparation of such summits in the future.”
