Supporting conflict-sensitive teaching at the University of Parakou

Date:

In February 2025, the PeaceNexus team and Board members visited the University of Parakou in northern Benin. As one of our most recent partners in the West Africa Programme, this collaboration is notable as it marks PeaceNexus’ first partnership with an academic institution. Specifically, we are partnering with the Faculty of Letters, Arts and Human Sciences (FLASH) to support their Master’s programme in Social Mediation and Facilitation.

Launched in 2024, the partnership aims to help the faculty integrate conflict sensitivity into their teaching, behaviors and internal administration in response to northern Benin’s current conflict dynamics. As Vice-Rector Yvette Onibon Doubogan put it: “This will allow us to better position ourselves nationally and internationally in terms of mediation and conflict management.”

Looking ahead and building on the conflict and peace mapping initiated through this collaboration, our support will focus on adopting a research-action approach to help the programme reinforce their community service, strengthen social cohesion, and connect the programme with similar courses internationally.
