Without papers, they don’t exist—but you can hold hope for their recognition

How birth certificates become pathways to peace and inclusion.

At a peace forum hosted by Search in Niger, a woman spoke a truth too often ignored:
“Without documents, we don’t exist—not to the state, not to the system, not to the future.”

You can’t issue birth certificates yourself, but you can hold hope for those who need them.

For millions across Niger, civil documents—birth certificates, identity cards, marriage licenses—are out of reach. Without them, people remain invisible: locked out of school, healthcare, voting, and citizenship itself.

This isn’t just about paperwork. It’s about peace and inclusion.

Without documentation, young people can’t finish school. Women can’t access protection under law. Citizens are shut out of decision-making. Exclusion breeds resentment. Resentment fuels conflict.

It’s one of the least visible but most powerful drivers of instability—and one of the most solvable. Through community dialogues and advocacy, Search is helping bring people in from the margins. Giving them not just legal identity, but a voice in shaping their future.

With just 13 days left in 2025, your year-end donation holds hope for recognition, participation, and dignity for communities in need. With your support, we can:

  • Facilitate community dialogues that address root causes of marginalization
  • Train local peacebuilders to mediate conflicts and prevent violence
  • Support grassroots leaders working to strengthen their communities

Hold Hope for the Unseen

Peace requires participation. Participation requires recognition. Civil registration is one of the most effective, scalable pathways to building equity—and it starts with something as simple as a birth certificate.

When people exist on paper, they can shape their future in reality.
