Enabling peace-positive climate finance in fragile contexts

Date:

Climate finance too often ignores conflict hotspots, despite a global rise in violence. States and communities affected by conflict often have significantly underfunded climate adaptation and peacebuilding needs. Peace-positive climate investments can therefore deliver beneficial long-term outcomes for climate and people.

This note summarises the case for peace-positive climate investments in fragile and conflict-affected settings (FCAS). It identifies constraints faced by institutions and climate portfolios, and the enablers and opportunities for achieving and scaling such investments. It is based on a roundtable event convened by FCDO and International Alert with participants from key bilateral and multilateral partners and climate finance institutes.
