A 4-Minute Practice to Clarify What’s Important Right Now

Date:

Feeling scattered or disorganized? Pausing to take just three breaths can help you discern what’s important right now and direct energy toward that.

The mantra or reminder for the day is Just three breaths. While it may not sound like much, this reminder brings your attention back to what is most important.

When life feels like it’s spinning out of control, use the power of your breath to ground and center yourself in this moment. With just three intentional breaths, you can reconnect with what’s most essential, letting go of anything that stands in its way.

This practice is particularly beneficial during moments of overwhelming stress or anxiety. It can help you prioritize your ever-growing list of tasks and responsibilities. So let’s do this together.

Guided Meditation: Clarify What’s Important Right Now

  1. Come to a relaxed and alert posture. Just take a few deep breaths to center yourself, using your breath as an anchor to be here now.
  2. Let’s practice the three breaths together. With the first breath, simply relaxing the body. With the second breath, softening any tension in the mind. And with the third breath, asking yourself what is most important right now?
  3. Listen within. Once the mind is stabilized, stay with the question “What is most important right now?” Listen and trust whatever is emerging. Listen within to your intentions, priorities, and possibilities to move forward with ease.
  4. Trust yourself. You will know what you need to focus on in the present moment. If you still feel like your mind is running in circles, jot down all the tasks and prioritize them based on your intentions and goals. When you feel ready, proceed with trust and intentionality. Return to your breath as an anchor whenever you feel overwhelmed.

Prioritizing the items in your to-do list is a great practice. Writing down what you need to accomplish and then practicing with three breaths can help you disrupt the inner turmoil and see clearly what is important, urgent, and most aligned with your intentions and values. The more you practice and play with this, the easier and faster you get at returning to clarity.
