As part of Action Against Hunger’s Grant for a New Humanitarian Look, Central African cultural journalist Jean de Dieu Boukanga Yaladakpa won over the jury assembled by Action Against Hunger with his project entitled “Un jour, tout ça finira” (One day it will all end). This is a series of podcasts, produced in the Central African Republic, whose ambition is to give a voice to people who have suffered war and its consequences. He has notably worked for the Music in Africa Foundation and with Radio France Internationale (RFI).
Jean de Dieu Boukanga Yaladakpa will receive €10,000 to carry out his or her project, and will be supervised for a year by Azu Nwagbogu, the jury chairman, an internationally renowned curator, and the founder of the LagosPhoto Festival. Jean de Dieu Boukanga Yaladakpa’s work will be exhibited in October 2025.
“It is with immense joy that I learned of my designation as the winner of the 2nd Action Against Hunger (ACF) Grant for a New Humanitarian Look,” says Jean de Dieu Boukanga Yaladakpa. “Nearly 10 years ago, I took the risky step of switching from law to journalism, because I wanted to help my community make its voice heard in the world. With the support of Action Contre la Faim through this grant, I’m going to take up the exciting challenge of producing a humanitarian journalistic work, to give volume to the long unheard groans of the many Central Africans destroyed by war… My project will take the form of a podcast series I’ve titled ‘Un jour tout ça finira’, to predict better days for my nation currently in difficulty. To bring this initiative to fruition, I’m really counting on Azu Nwagbogu’s mentoring, who, with his vast experience in creative fields, will be able to help me produce a high-quality work.”
For the record, this annual grant aims to launch a reflection on the future of humanitarian imagery, with its players, in order to think together about its future developments. It aims to promote projects that break away from assimilated conventions, highlighting creativity and daring, in order to fuel our collective reflection on the development of multimedia language.
