Action Against Hunger Is Assessing the Situation on the Ground in Venezuela and Preparing to Respond to the Emergency

Date:

Madrid, June 25, 2026 – Action Against Hunger is closely monitoring developments in Venezuela following the powerful earthquakes that struck the country (magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5), affecting various areas in the north, including regions near the capital, Caracas. The organization is on the ground, assessing the impact and the most urgent needs of the population.

“Our team is already on the ground, assessing the situation in what is still a rapidly changing context. As soon as the most urgent needs are more clearly defined, we are ready to provide support,” says Benedetta Lettera, head of operations for Action Against Hunger in Latin America.

“The situation is characterized by limited connectivity and communication difficulties, which are hampering both our ability to move around and our capacity to gather information in real time. Despite this, Action Against Hunger’s teams remain active and in contact, monitoring how the emergency is developing,” says Dunia de Barnola, Action Against Hunger’s country director in Venezuela, speaking from Caracas.

Against this backdrop, Action Against Hunger is participating in local coordination meetings, alongside other humanitarian organizations, to identify the most pressing needs and determine the best way to contribute to the humanitarian response.

“A meeting of the Humanitarian Country Team is scheduled for today, at which the situation will be analyzed, and progress will be made in defining the initial response measures,” adds de Barnola.

Whilst the emergency is mainly concentrated in the central part of the country, other areas where the organization works remain operational, enabling it to maintain active capacities for a potential response.

Action Against Hunger will update this information as new data becomes available and as the situation develops.

Spokespersons available to the media:
