Charlotte Richards, 22, has organised a JustGiving fundraiser called “Charlea’s chop for charity” that is taking place on April 19.
The fundraiser aims to provide support for Action Against Hunger, an organisation dedicated to tackling global hunger issues.
Miss Richards said: “I don’t believe that anybody should go to bed hungry in this day and age.
“I’ve chosen this charity as they combat hunger issues around the globe and hope that my contribution will make somewhat of a difference.
“We live in a country where our government provides benefits to people in need.
“People in the UK generously donate food products to food banks for less fortunate people, and I’ve chosen this charity as it is worldwide and people in other countries don’t have our systems and access to food. ”
Being employed in the food industry, Miss Richards frequently witnesses food waste and takes home products that are about to be thrown away.
She said: “This is not because we lack food at home.
“In fact, I know we are very privileged to never have to worry about where our next meal is coming from.”
Action Against Hunger operates globally, and Miss Richards is eager to connect with more people to increase the contributions and amplify the charity’s impact.
She said: “If we all made conscious efforts to reduce what we throw away and use that to feed those in need, the world would be a better place.”
Miss Richards is appealing for assistance in spreading the word about her fundraising campaign.
