Butterflies: Parts, Patterns, and Pollinators (K-2)

Date:

We may be a little biased, but butterflies are pretty great. Beyond our beautiful logo, they offer K-2 teachers a natural, engaging way to address NGSS-aligned science standards in life science. This free 6-day unit and lesson plan collection guides students through the butterfly life cycle, external body parts, wing adaptations, and pollination, closing with a hands-on Celebration of Learning.

Each of the six lesson plans includes differentiation strategies for Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade, modifications for students with disabilities, and scaffolds for multilingual learners.

Inside this unit and lesson plan collection, you’ll find:

  • A unit overview with NGSS standards alignment for K-2
  • 6 detailed lesson plans covering the butterfly life cycle, body parts, wings, and adaptations, and pollination
  • Hands-on activities, including a butterfly craft, Butterfly Café, and pollination simulation
  • Differentiation strategies, learning supports, and teacher reflection prompts for every lesson
  • A Celebration of Learning lesson to close out the unit
