The first quarter of 2014 included a great deal of activity for California’s K-12 System, including 10-Gigabit connections for the Marin, Sonoma, San Diego, and Ventura County Offices of Education. Another 10-Gigabit connection for the Solano County Office of Education has completed testing and will be in production shortly.
In addition to these upgrades, a Gigabit connection was provided to the Mariposa County Office of Education as well as a second Gigabit connection to the Riverside County Office of Education at Indio for temporary bandwidth relief. Circuit re-designs and upgrades to Gigabit connectivity were also completed for the Bishop Union Elementary School District at the Bishop Elementary School and the Mono County Office of Education.
Topology re-designs were also carried out for Chaffey Joint Union High School District and the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools, as well as for Victor Valley College, which functions as a K12 node site. All three node sites are now enjoying diverse 10-Gigabit connectivity to CalREN.
During the same time period, California’s Community Colleges received new Gigabit connections for Lassen College and between Grossmont and Cuyamaca Colleges, placing both sites on a Gigabit ring. Another Gigabit ring was put into place between Copper Mountain College and College of the Desert.
The California State University received three 10-Gigabit connections, one for CSU East Bay and two for CSU Monterey Bay. For the University of California, UC San Diego (and the San Diego Supercomputer Center) received 100-Gigabit connectivity as well as UC Davis. Lastly, the Los Angeles-Sunnyvale segment of the backbone for the Pacific Wave distributed international peering exchange has been upgraded from 10-Gigabit to 100-Gigabit.
