Chantal works thread by thread

Date:

On Tuesdays, Chantal walks the same path.
Past the same homes.
Past the same fields.
Toward a place that didn’t always exist.
Before the group formed, most days were quiet in a different way.
Not peaceful. Just separate.
Everyone carrying their own worries.
Their own losses.
Their own questions about what comes next.
The first time Chantal joined the Listening Club, she didn’t say much.
She sat.
She listened.
She watched how the others spoke, slowly, carefully.
Over time, something shifted.
The room became familiar.
The conversations changed.
What began as a place to share became something more, a place to rebuild.
They named it Mukenyezi Térimbere.
Women, move forward.
Now, when Chantal sits with the group, her hands are rarely still.
Thread between her fingers.
Loop by loop.
Color taking shape.
They talk while they work.
About their families.
About what they’re building.
About what’s possible now that they’re not doing it alone.
The earrings come together the same way.
Carefully.
Patiently.
One step at a time.
What started as a gathering for healing has become something steady.
Women supporting each other.
Earning income.
Investing in what comes next, education, tools, something that lasts.
When you wear these, you carry that with you.
Not just the craft, but the movement behind it.
A group of women choosing to move forward together.
Building something that holds.
