Today kicks off National Drive Electric Month, and for the next four weeks, groups across the country will host events that help raise awareness about electric vehicles.
Ellen Sisti Wade of the nonprofit Evolve Kentucky plans to show off her car on Sunday at the Norton Commons community in Louisville.
She has a long list of things she loves about EVs. She says they’re better for the environment than gas cars.
Wade: “There’s very little maintenance … and they’re quiet, and they’re powerful.”
And charging up at home costs just a tiny fraction of what she used to pay to fill up her tank of gas.
Wade: “So those are all the reasons that I love it, and it’s my forever car.”
As part of this weekend’s event, Wade and other local EV owners will answer people’s questions about EV ownership and talk about their experiences driving electric.
Wade: “We even allow them to test drive our own electric vehicles. … We fondly call it ‘placing their butts in the seats.’ … It is amazing and pure joy to see the awe and wonder on their faces after they get out of that car.”
Wade hopes it helps get more people excited about buying an EV for themselves and confident about making the switch.
