GAIA’s 25 Year Leadership on Zero Waste

GAIA is one of the founders of the zero waste movement, with a 25 year history of supporting over 1,000 members to build successful zero waste policies and practices in over 90 countries across the globe. The United Nations Environment Programme is funding GAIA to further key zero waste strategies around the world through the Climate & Clean Air Coalition (CCAC). GAIA is working with CCAC to implement key zero waste cities and compost activities and document the finance in 14 countries (12 in Africa). GAIA is also active in CCAC’s “Waste Hub” and has attended several CCAC annual gatherings, and GAIA’s European branch, Zero Waste Europe, is an affiliate of WasteWiseCities.  GAIA is also part of the Global Methane Hub and facilitates a quarterly Global Action Hub on Waste Methane and Environmental Justice
