Groups Renew Call for Biden to Finalize Drilling Plan with #NoNewLeases

Date:

On November 15, Oceana, other environmental groups, and frontline communities hosted a virtual event to urge President Biden to uphold his campaign commitment and stop the expansion of dirty and dangerous offshore drilling by finalizing a five-year plan with #NoNewLeases. Oceana climate and energy campaign director Diane Hoskins moderated the panel discussion where speakers urged President Biden to uphold his climate commitments and include no new leases in the Department of the Interior’s five-year plan for offshore oil and gas.

The draft five-year plan proposed as few as zero and up to 11 new potential offshore leases – potentially locking in fossil fuel development and emissions for decades to come, but President Biden can release a five-year plan with no new leases.

You can watch the full event here:

Speakers included:
• Anne Rolfes, Director, Louisiana Bucket Brigade
• Danielle Deiseroth, Lead Climate Strategist, Data for Progress
• Marissa Wilson, Executive Director, Alaska Marine Conservation Council
• Mike Sturdivant, Emerald Coast Treasurer, Surfrider Foundation
• Anika Shethia, Co-Executive Director, Houston Youth Climate Strike
• John Beard, Founder, Chairman, and CEO, Port Arthur Community Action Network

E&E News covered the news and Oceana live tweeted the event. You can view the thread here:
