Have questions about buying an EV? Your dealer might be learning, too » Yale Climate Connections

When people go to a car dealership to buy an electric vehicle, they often have a lot of questions about the technology. But EVs are also new to many dealership employees.

Urquhart Dunican: “We are here to support them in selling EVs, being confident to sell EVs, and to provide consumers a good experience, because it’s a new technology for everyone.”

Kathryn Urquhart Dunican is with the nonprofit Plug in America.

Through its PlugStar program, the group provides both online and in-shop training to dealers, covering everything from how EVs work and how to charge them to where customers can find financial incentives to buy them.

Thousands of dealership staff across the country have already participated in these trainings.

And to help car buyers prepare before they visit a dealership, the nonprofit offers a virtual shopping assistant. It helps people sort through EV models, find dealers, and more.

Urquhart Dunican: “We try to make sure that we’re serving up as much information as possible to the consumer and as much information as possible to the dealer, so we’re reducing any confusion or any barriers on both sides, and really creating a good experience for both parties.”

So more people feel comfortable making the switch to electric.
