iNews: Why urban water matters

Date:

As World Water Week (24–28 August) unfolds in Stockholm, Sweden, we are bringing the message that cities must lead in creating water resilience. In this issue, explore how we’re advocating for and supporting local and regional governments in tackling urban water challenges. A newly launched compendium shows how even the most water-scarce and flood-prone cities are stepping up with bold action. And today, at 16:00 CEST, join our Daring Cities Virtual Forum session launching ICLEI’s new handbook on reuse packaging solutions for cities.

Water is a “blue thread” connecting human rights, the SDGs, and the three Rio Conventions on climate, biodiversity, and land. Embedding water resilience into urban planning is not optional; it is essential for climate-smart, inclusive, and livable cities, and local and regional governments are already delivering. Explore how we are supporting them to step up to the challenge and scale their impact.
