PeaceNexus is supporting the organizational development of IPD by developing their strategic communications to strengthen collaboration with targeted government, donor and international organisations.
The Partner
The Institute for Peace and Development (IPD/IPD) is a non-profit, non-political organisation with a mission to create a just, open and inclusive society by supporting civic education and fostering dialogue to promote peace and social cohesion.
IPD operates through its strong network of mentors, trainers and coaches in all seven regions of Kyrgyzstan. It implements projects, notably ‘peace clubs’ in schools and provides expertise to other organizations through trainings and consultations. In all their activities, they strive to create a safe space where participants can think about the topics raised in a new way and develop their own solutions to the problems discussed.
IPD has developed a successful form of organising extracurricular activities in schools in Kyrgyzstan through the creation and support of peace clubs aimed at promoting social cohesion and the development of “soft skills” among schoolchildren. In 2020, 10 school peace clubs were established, and two years later their number grew to more than 50 in all provinces of Kyrgyzstan. Today, more than 1,000 students and 70 teachers are members of the clubs. The Peace Clubs have organized about 1,000 activities in schools and communities, with more than 17,000 participants. The activities of the clubs are mainly aimed at strengthening peace, promoting the intellectual growth of young people, preventing juvenile delinquency and implementing the Kyrgyz Jarany concept. More than 2,700 stakeholders from the provincial and district administrations, education departments, internal affairs departments and local government bodies have supported and participated in the activities of the peace clubs.
Our support
IPD was selected to receive organizational development in 2022. To improve IPD’s strategic communications and influence, we supported work to update and confirm IPD’s vision and mission, main areas of focus; the needs of the target audience (drawing on survey feedback from past project participants); and strategic objectives for 2023-2025. This has helped clarify the strategic communication objectives, including for outreach to the donor community.
The Results
The partnership has resulted in increased recognition and collaboration opportunities. IPD support from key government, donor, and international organisations has increased. Improved multimedia products have also helped increase the visibility of IPD activities and strengthen engagement with communities and local partner schools.
