Katherine Olson – Waterkeeper

Katherine Olson is from Virginia, USA and has been living in China for six years. She got a Masters Degree in environmental engineering from Nanjing University and is currently a full-time employee of Qiantang River Waterkeeper and the Waterkeepers China coordinator.

Katherine’s work mainly focuses on environmental advocacy and education and she is very passionate about making sustainability education for kids fun and hands-on. Outside of her job at Qiantang River Waterkeeper, she also runs a YouTube channel “Katherine’s Journey to the East” where she shares Chinese village life and interesting environmental protection projects all over Zhejiang Province with 100k subscribers from around the world.

She is also an avid biker and in 2023, biked 2000 km around Zhejiang Province recording stories of environmental changes over the past decade, and plans to do an even bigger “environmental bike ride” in 2025.
