Tejeda es un destacado científico especializado en física y climatología. Posee un doctorado en Física con énfasis en Climatología por la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, y realizó un posdoctorado en la Universidad de Florida sobre el impacto del fenómeno de El Niño en el Caribe.

Ha ocupado cargos importantes en la Universidad de Puerto Rico en Carolina y lidera proyectos de investigación sobre erosión costera, gestión del clima y huracanes en el Atlántico Norte. Además, ha publicado libros sobre calentamiento global y gestión del clima en el Caribe.
