PeaceNexus is supporting efforts to develop a regional transport centre to strengthen connectivity and collaboration across the region

In 2021, PeaceNexus partnered with the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the research center ‘Ma’no’ to explore the feasibility of new transport corridors in Central Asia and the effect of the Belt and Road Initiative. As Central Asia remains highly fragmented, strengthening connectivity is key to enabling greater collaboration across the region and has the potential to bring states and peoples together in pursuit of their shared interests.

We supported our partners to develop a concept for a regional transport centre, that will inform decision-making on major infrastructure investments in 2022 and beyond. The research was conducted in an inclusive process with equal participation by independent experts and officials from state transportation bodies from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. This exceptionally inclusive process led to a shared assessment of the opportunities and risks associated with including Central Asian countries in a regional transport initiative centred in Uzbekistan.
