Professional Learning Activity: Promoting Mental Health Awareness and Support in Schools

This one-hour professional learning activity is designed to help educators, support staff, and school leaders strengthen mental health awareness and support across the school. With video prompts, discussion guides, and customizable resources, it walks participants through key topics like recognizing warning signs, building supportive environments, and integrating wellness practices into daily routines.

Participants will explore current mental health challenges, reflect on their school’s needs, and leave with two ready-to-use tools: a Student Mental Health Check-In and a Teacher and Leader Wellness Plan. Perfect for staff meetings, PLCs, or wellness-focused PD sessions, this activity promotes long-term support strategies that benefit students and adults alike.

About the Author

Keely Keller is the Director of Professional Programs for Teaching Channel in Eagan, Minnesota. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Special Education from St. Cloud State University, a Master’s of Arts in Education from Hamline University, and additional Director of Special Education and Principal Licensures from the University of Minnesota. Before joining Teaching Channel, Keely served students with special needs as a teacher and Special Education Coordinator in a suburban Minnesota school district. Keely has years of experience working with new teachers.
