Statement: Three years of war in Ukraine

Date:

“The closure of USAID programs in Ukraine would have a devastating impact on millions of people in need, particularly displaced people, small and medium businesses, and the agricultural sector.

According to the Ukrainian Parliamentary Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy, since the start of the Russian full-scale invasion 2022, USAID has provided $2.6 billion in humanitarian aid, $5 billion for development, and an additional $30 billion in direct budget support to Ukraine. 115 programs have received critical support for humanitarian assistance: demining, energy restoration, and health care, including mobile medical units for remote villages.

Suspending agricultural initiatives such as AGRI-Ukraine could disrupt grain exports, worsening global food insecurity. Halting demining efforts will leave vast farmlands unusable, directly impacting farmers WHH actively supports in Ukraine. Thousands of NGO workers who facilitate aid delivery could lose their jobs, further straining Ukraine’s humanitarian response.
