In Juárez, Mexico, years of social unrest and economic hardship have taken their toll on families, with many struggling to meet basic needs. For parents in the Felipe Ángeles neighborhood, sending their children to school is not just about education — it means hope for a better future. Yet, the burden of purchasing essential school supplies often feels overwhelming, leaving families to make difficult choices between survival and supporting their children’s education.
At Search for Common Ground, we believe that fostering peace starts with education. This year, we bridged divides and brought communities together by distributing brand-new backpacks filled with essential supplies to 300 students from elementary to high school. These backpacks represent more than just tools for learning—they symbolize opportunity, encouragement, and a chance to focus on dreams rather than limitations.
For Sara, a single mother of eight studying to become a nurse, these backpacks were a lifeline. They gave her children the confidence to return to school with everything they needed, while also offering Sara the chance to invest in her own education. For the students, the excitement of unwrapping colorful new pencil cases and backpacks was tangible—a moment of relief for both them and their families.
The impact has been profound. The students feel seen and supported, knowing these supplies were thoughtfully put together with their specific needs in mind. It’s more than just a backpack—it’s the fuel they need to keep going through another challenging year, with the hopes that education will be their ladder to success.
As we approach the end of the year, we ask you to join us in carrying their future forward. Your donation will help more children like those in Felipe Ángeles face their challenges with confidence, knowing they have the tools—and the support—they need to succeed.
Let’s keep carrying hope together.
