(NEWS) BETHESDA, MD, 2025-Aug-6 — /Travel PR News/ — Marriott International has deepened its collaboration with Canadian nonprofit La Tablée des Chefs to tackle food insecurity nationwide. Building on a partnership launched in 2023, the hotel giant and the charity will distribute a total of 500,000 ready-to-cook soup portions by the end of 2025. Participating Marriott properties will assemble and send dry soup packets to local food banks and shelters, amplifying efforts that have already seen 45,000 packets delivered and over 127,000 meals donated across more than 75 hotels in nine provinces.
Anchored within Marriott’s Serve360 sustainability and social impact platform, the initiative underscores the company’s pledge to reduce waste and bolster community well-being. Canada COO Paul Cahill highlighted how engaging hotel teams “strengthens the connection between our associates and the communities they serve.” Jean-François Archambault of La Tablée des Chefs, who began his career with Marriott, praised the “solidarity and generosity” of the partnership and noted its role in feeding and educating Canadians—a mission that has already redirected 21 million surplus food portions since 2002.
With some 25 percent of Canadians facing food insecurity, the soup program arrives at a critical moment. Marriott’s own progress report shows a 23 percent reduction in waste-to-landfill intensity and a 29 percent drop in food-waste intensity by year-end 2024 (vs. a 2019 baseline). As the hospitality sector seeks greener, more socially conscious models, the expanded Marriott–La Tablée des Chefs alliance offers a blueprint for large-scale community impact driven by excess-food recovery and volunteer engagement.

Last year, IHG Hotels & Resorts has also announced its partnership with Action Against Hunger to combat global food insecurity. The partnership will fund child malnutrition programs and allow guests to donate rewards points to support these initiatives, as part of IHG’s broader commitment to improving global food security.
