TRIAL BIH is a Programme of the TRIAL International’s operating in Bosnia and Herzegovina since 2007. They work on combating impunity in the country and victims/survivors’ access to justice, by combining strategic litigation, provision of free legal assistance, domestic and international advocacy, and the capacity building of legal professionals, especially prosecutors.
They provide support to survivors, including of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) and have managed to secure several significant wins for reparations in Federation BIH, Brčko District and Republika Srpska by influenced changes in legal framework for civilian war victims in all three entities, and contributed for children born out of war-time rape to be recognized as victims of war. Another significant milestone the organization made is related to introducing compensation claims in criminal proceedings for CRSV survivors within criminal prosecutions.
PeaceNexus is supporting TRIAL BIH’s organisational development since 2023 to strengthen internal systems and chart out a programme strategy that responds to the needs and the operating context and examine what that means for their internal setup.
