Transcript:

Adam Met, the bassist from the multiplatinum pop band AJR, has played sold-out shows in cities around the world – where he’s seen some of the impacts of climate change firsthand.

Once, the band played in San Francisco while wildfires burned nearby.

Met: “We had to wear gas masks going from the tour bus into the venue because the smoke from the fires were so bad.”

And they performed in Athens, Greece, while extreme storms flooded parts of the city.

These types of events reaffirmed Met’s passion for a cause he’s cared about since he was a teenager – reducing climate change.

He’s the founder and executive director of Planet Reimagined, a climate nonprofit.

And he’s helping rally his own fans to take climate action – starting right at his concerts.

Last year, on a sweltering day in Phoenix, fans were invited to sign a petition urging FEMA to categorize extreme heat as an emergency.

At other shows, thousands of fans wrote letters to elected leaders, registered to vote, or signed up to volunteer for local climate campaigns.

Met: “People want to take action on things that are impacting them personally and locally.”

So by providing simple starting points to help people get involved, Met hopes to make music fans fans of climate action.
