Background and Purpose

Action Against Hunger is a global leader creating a future where every life is well nourished. We innovate to prevent malnutrition and respond to hunger hot spots, working in over 55 countries and reaching more than 26.5 million people each year. Together, we are promoting resilience and working to end hunger for everyone, for good.

We are seeking a skilled and experienced contract writer to support the consolidation and drafting of our International Strategic Plan #4 (ISP4). This work involves synthesizing inputs from multiple internal working groups currently engaged in updating the ISP4 and translating those inputs into a cohesive, polished strategic document.

The successful candidate will work closely with organizational leadership, ISP4 steering group members, and working group leads to capture the strategic intent, voice, and direction of the organization across all sections of the plan.

Scope of Work

Document Overview

The completed International Strategic Plan will consist of approximately 15 pages of narrative

content.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review, synthesize, and integrate inputs from multiple working groups into a unified
    strategic narrative.
  • Write clear, compelling, and audience-appropriate content for each section of the ISP4.
  • Revise drafts based on feedback from organizational leadership, ISP4 steering group
    members, and working group representatives.
  • Ensure consistency in tone, language, and style throughout the document.
  • Meet all draft deadlines as outlined in the project schedule.

Project Schedule and Deliverables

The contract writer will produce four (4) iterative drafts culminating in a final approved document. Please see the download for the full schedule.

Compensation

Payment will be made upon receipt and acceptance of each completed deliverable draft. Invoicing may be structured per draft milestone or on a monthly basis, to be confirmed at contract signing.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualified candidates must demonstrate the following:

  • Proven experience writing organizational strategy documents, strategic plans, or policy
    documents for international, national, or multi-sectoral organizations.
  • Strong ability to synthesize complex, multi-stakeholder input into a coherent and
    accessible narrative.
  • Excellent written English (proficiency in additional languages is a plus).
  • Demonstrated capacity to work under tight timelines and meet successive draft
    deadlines.
  • Experience working with or within non-profit, government, or international development
    sectors are considered a plus.
  • Familiarity with strategic planning frameworks, logic models, and results-based
    management approaches are an asset.

Proposal Requirements

Interested candidates must submit a complete proposal package by the deadline. Proposals
must include:

  • Cover letter (maximum 2 pages) describing relevant experience and your approach to
    this type of work.
  • CV or professional biography highlighting relevant strategic writing experience.
  • Two (2) writing samples of comparable documents (strategic plans, policy documents, or
    similar; samples may be excerpts if full documents are confidential).
  • Two (2) professional references who can speak to your strategic writing work.
  • Proposed hourly rate and confirmation of availability for the full contract period (March
    16 – June 30, 2025).
  • Any questions, proposed modifications to scope, or conditions relevant to your proposal.

Evaluation Criteria

Proposals will be evaluated based on the following weighted criteria:

  • Relevant experience in strategic writing: 35%
  • Quality of writing samples: 30%
  • Proposed approach and methodology: 20%
  • Cost competetiveness: 15%
