You can save lives this hurricane season » Yale Climate Connections

Date:

Dear readers,

As we head into peak Atlantic hurricane season, I’m proud to be part of a team that doesn’t shy away from straightforwardly explaining how climate change is making these storms more dangerous. At a time when many news outlets are laying off their climate reporters, we’re more determined than ever to keep telling the truth. That’s why we’re asking readers like you to help us keep our extreme weather coverage going and growing.

I’m thrilled to announce that a generous Eye on the Storm reader has agreed to match your contribution dollar-for-dollar, up to $10,000. That means that if you donate by August 1, every dollar you contribute will become $2.

Anything you can spare is appreciated, but if you become a monthly donor at $15 a month or make a one-time donation of $50, that would make a huge difference in helping more people get lifesaving information about dangerous hurricanes, wildfires, heat waves, floods — and the role that climate change is playing in all of them.

“I trust this site to be upfront and honest with scientific data on what is happening to our planet,” one Eye on the Storm reader wrote. “It is alarming. I dread hurricane season, but I always look to this site.”

If you become a monthly donor between now and Saturday, August 1, you’ll be invited to join an exclusive, monthly-donors-only conversation with Jeff Masters, Irene Sans, and me over Zoom later this season. To sign up, make sure you’ve selected the “recurring” option on the donation form. (Note: If you set your donation to be anonymous, we won’t have your information to invite you to the conversation.)

We receive no direct funding from Yale University, so your support makes all the difference.

If you’d rather donate by check, please make it out to “Yale University” and write “For Yale Climate Connections” on the check. Mail it to: Yale Climate Connections, Yale University, Attn: Development Office, 205 Prospect Street, New Haven, CT 06511

Our federal tax ID is 06-0646973.

Thanks for your support,

Sara Peach
