McMahon directly criticized the Biden administration, saying, “The Biden Administration failed the FAFSA rollout two years ago, leaving millions of American students and families without clear answers or a path forward in their educational journey.” She emphasized that the new team has been mandated to restore confidence in the system.

The FAFSA Simplification Act, passed in 2020, required a major redesign of the application to streamline the process for students and families. However, implementation under the prior administration encountered setbacks. The December 2024 law now ensures stricter accountability, binding the Education Department to the October 1 release date.
